Your rights

Right to Repair — it is your television

Almost every week somebody walks in having been told their television is finished. Often it is not — it needs a bond re-made, a capacitor changed, or firmware rewritten. The reason people are told otherwise is rarely dishonesty; it is that a shop which cannot diagnose a fault can only offer to replace something. Right to Repair is the idea that you, the owner, should be able to find out what is actually wrong and choose who fixes it.

What Right to Repair means in India

The Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, launched the Right to Repair Portal India in December 2022. It covers four sectors: farming equipment, mobiles and electronics, consumer durables, and automobile equipment. Televisions fall under consumer durables and electronics. The portal is designed to give owners access to product manuals and repair videos, information about spare-part pricing and warranty, details of company service centres, and recognition of third-party repairers — with the stated aims of supporting a circular economy and reducing electronic waste.

What that means for your television

It means you are entitled to know what is wrong with your set before deciding what to do about it, and you are entitled to choose who repairs it. It also means a television that can be economically repaired should not automatically become e-waste. A 55-inch panel that is scrapped because nobody would re-bond a driver IC is a genuine waste of materials, money and somebody's savings.

The honest bit about warranty

If your television is still inside its manufacturer warranty, use the brand service centre first — it costs you nothing, and having an independent repairer open the set can end that remaining warranty. We will tell you this rather than take your money. Right to Repair matters most after the warranty period ends, which is when the majority of televisions actually fail, and when the brand's answer is often a quote high enough to push you towards a new set.

Where an independent lab fits

Several of the brands we service have no authorised television service centre anywhere in Karur district. For those owners there is no choice to make — independent repair is the only repair. For the brands that do have service coverage, an independent lab gives you a second opinion and a second price. Both of those are worth having before you spend money on a panel.

What we commit to

We diagnose before we quote, and the diagnosis is free. We tell you which of the four things behind the screen has actually failed — panel, backlight, power supply or T-CON — instead of naming the most expensive one. We tell you plainly when a repair is not worth the money, and we will buy the set rather than let you pay to dispose of it. We will show you the parts we replaced if you ask.

Independence statement

E-DIO Television Service LAB is an independent repair business. It is not an authorised service centre for, affiliated with, endorsed by, or a partner of Sony, Samsung, LG, TCL, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme, Micromax, Intex, Vu or any other manufacturer. Brand and model names appear on this website only to describe which televisions we are able to repair. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Tell us what your television is doing

Send a photo of the fault and the model sticker on the back of the set. We will tell you the likely cause and a realistic cost before you travel anywhere or spend anything.

  • Free diagnosis. No work starts until you approve the price.
  • An honest answer. If the set is not worth repairing we say so — and we will buy it from you.
  • A second opinion. Quoted for a whole new panel elsewhere? Screen lines are usually a bonding repair for a fraction of that.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to have my TV repaired by an independent shop?

Yes. You own the television and you may choose who repairs it. India's Right to Repair Portal explicitly recognises third-party repairers alongside company service centres.

Will an independent repair void my warranty?

If the set is still within the manufacturer warranty period, then yes, having it opened by an independent repairer can end that warranty — so use the brand service first while it lasts. Once the warranty has expired there is nothing left to void. Physical damage such as a cracked screen is excluded from manufacturer warranty from the start.

My brand has no service centre in Karur. What are my options?

Mi and Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme and Vu have no authorised television service centre in Karur district. An independent lab is the practical option, and we repair at component level so we do not depend on a brand parts channel.

Can I ask what was actually wrong with my set?

You should, and you should expect a straight answer naming the specific board or component. If a shop cannot tell you what failed, it probably did not diagnose it.

Why does repairing instead of replacing matter?

A television is electronic waste once it is scrapped. Reducing e-waste and supporting a circular economy are the stated aims of India's Right to Repair Portal. A repaired set also costs you far less than a replacement.
